Know the Story
Two familiar words take me home.
Living in Australia, I do not get to use Órale, ese as naturally as I did back home. The song gave me a way to introduce the phrase, hear East L.A. again and reflect on the journey from where I began to where I am today.
The origin
Órale, ese is one of those Spanish expressions I grew up using so naturally that it could greet someone, encourage them, acknowledge a truth or simply say, ‘I hear you.’ It became a catchphrase for countless interactions without ever needing an explanation. Living in Australia, I rarely get to use it that way anymore, so writing the song gave me a chance to say it again—and to introduce other people to how much feeling two familiar words can carry.
The song follows that phrase back to East L.A., then carries it through the journey that brought me to where I am today. I have crossed countries, built a life in Australia and changed in all the ways life asks us to change. But the roots, memories and neighborhood spirit still ride with me.

You are you wherever you go.
You can travel far, build a new home and keep growing without leaving your original self behind. Different side of the world, same vato inside.
