A table can reveal the values behind it.

I carried these values from childhood into my adult life: inclusivity, generosity, dignity and refusing to measure another person’s worth by status or etiquette.

The origin

I contrast two tables in this song. One is crowded, mismatched and generous, shaped by my abuela’s kitchen, where anyone who arrives hungry is fed. The other is polished and formal, but a small judgment exposes the values beneath the setting. I stay grounded, and the room quietly learns a different way to respond.

Hospitality is not proved by the room, the tableware or the appearance of refinement. It is proved by whether people are welcomed, protected from shame and treated as though they belong.
