Know the Story
The title stayed. The song became something new.
I wrote Dream Come True for Sharna after a memory of Kenny and Top Notch inspired me to experiment with a complete love song built from very few words.
The words are spare because the feeling is not.
How a stage memory became my Soul song
After remaking Top Notch’s She’s All Talk, I kept thinking about the band’s power ballad, Dream Come True. I can still see Kenny onstage reaching the title line and pointing across the crowd—not to one chosen person, but to as many people as he could. In his hands, everyone got to feel like the song was theirs.
If I ever recreate another Top Notch song, that original power ballad would be the one. Dream Come True is not that remake. The memory gave me the title and the spark, but I took the writing somewhere else.
I wanted to test how little language a complete song actually needs. The great writers of the 1970s understood that repetition could deepen a feeling instead of merely repeating it. Bill Withers could build something timeless from plain words, impeccable rhythm and the confidence not to overexplain.
So I wrote another love song to Sharna using as few words as I could, while still giving the song every part it needed. The words are spare because the feeling is not. Our life together supplies everything sitting behind them.
The experiment became two versions. You’re My gives the song the big-band, vintage-showband treatment. Dream Come True is the pure-Soul ride: warmer, closer and less interested in spectacle than in letting the dedication settle.
The original Top Notch song may still receive its MarTinman twist one day. Until then, this Dream Come True belongs to Sharna and to the simple pleasure of saying something true without using more words than the truth requires.

What I want you to feel
You do not always need more words to say more. Sometimes the clearest declaration is the one you can keep returning to without changing what it means.
